SkillsTrain is Europe's leading home study, IT provider. The company has trained nearly 6 million students in over 60 years. Students who have gone forwards to use their newly acquired skills in their careers and in their personal lives, often passing on their knowledge to others.
Although many British children take computers for granted, most schools now have IT departments or computers in classrooms and around 45% of British households are connected to the Internet, the picture is very different for children in South Africa.
While visiting the country SkillsTrain's principal, Myra Smallman, was shocked by how few opportunities South African children have to even go near a computer.
Project Africa was born with the aim of sharing our IT skills with disadvantaged South African children. Providing them, free of charge, with computer training that would otherwise completely miss their generation. A highly worthwhile project that will continue for many years to come.
